GOOD PUBLIC SPACE

Good Public Space was a lecture aimed at young politicians in Liechtenstein, presenting insights from an ongoing investigation into the history, current trajectories, quality, and potential of public spaces in the Rhine Valley.
We approach public space as a complex amalgamation of social interactions, aesthetic effects, and infrastructure.
By analyzing historical maps and photographs, we trace spatial developments, distilling these into simple sketches that highlight paradigm shifts in how space is utilized and the impact of these changes on life.
We advocate prioritizing humans and ecological infrastructure over cars and traffic systems. This would result in better public spaces and foster a more cohesive society.
Our research delves into underlying principles such as the relationship between modes of transportation and perception, and their influence on public space.
The research is geared to conceive tools to diagnose contemporary public spaces, identify the causes of their dysfunction, and propose possible treatments.
We believe that any public space has the potential to become a “good” space—one that is cherished and enhances the quality of life for those who live nearby or use it.
